It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.” ― Audrey Hepburn Stunning eyes, a perfect figure, and gorgeous hair are only surface appearances. True beauty is more than skin-deep. All of us are guilty of it: worrying about the way we look.
But why? The question is: if true beauty is so much more than appearances, why do we give it so much attention? Two reasons:
The world prizes body-baring “beauty.” Hollywood markets it, advertisers exploit it, and the media promote it. Think of a person you know well, whom you completely adore, someone you consider to be completely beautiful. Now think of what she is, what makes you love her so much? I would venture to guess that the attributes you use to describe her are mostly characteristics, not physical attributes. You find her beautiful because of who she really IS, NOT what she looks like. "The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7). If we could see ourselves as the Lord sees us, even for one minute or less, all our insecurities of our appearances would forever vanish. True inner beauty cannot be purchased in the cosmetic isle or the plastic surgeons' office. It comes from years of developing oneself: serving others, becoming well-educated, learning interpersonal communication skills. Developing a meaningful relationships with others and God. It comes from years of hard work, of faithfully enduring trials with optimism, trust, strength, and courage. True beauty, doesn’t wash off. It is spiritual attractiveness. Deep beauty springs from virtue. It is the beauty of being chaste and morally clean. It is the deep spiritual beauty is found in the person you thought of earlier: a person you look up to. Was it you mother, your grandmother. Was it someone you sincerely look up to? We are led to believe that physical attractiveness is of true value: we women must all look like the elusive model on the cover of a magazine, or the skinny and talented actress. The Lord would tell us that we are each uniquely beautiful. When we are virtuous, chaste, and morally clean, our inner beauty glows in our eyes and in our face. Elaine Dalton's grandfather used to say, “If you live close to God and His infinite grace-- you won’t have to tell, it will show in your face.” Choose to be a person people look up to because of who you are, not because of what you look like. Be confident in choosing good, and your inner beauty will shine brightly. In beauty pageants, there is only one who gets to wear the crown. But with the Lord there is no competition. We are all winners because we are His. I hope your week will be marked with true beauty. xox, Crystelle Tall Tales is a fashion series about clothing for tall girls of all ages For more Tall Tales posts, please click here Juliette's ensemble shirt: DownEast, Cardigan: Ross, shorts: T.J. We look forward to working with you! Finding a place to store your collection of sheet music and still maintaining a tidy-looking room can be quite a challenge. Stacks of music papers and books always seem to gather on the top of the piano and anywhere else around it. It was time to find a place to store the different books and songs in a tidy and organized manner. With the thought in the back of my head that I needed to come up with a storage solution for the music papers and books gathering around the piano at my house, I found an unfinished dresser with skinny drawers at the store. Immediately a light-bulb went on: this might just be the perfect solution to sheet-music storage problems. I took the piece home and was delighted that it indeed was the perfect size for all the music. Plus the several different drawers made the perfect solution for organizing: one drawer for each person plus a few for different categories. Keeping the dresser plain or simple was out of the question, so I got creative and made every drawer a bit different. And the fifth drawer got to display the number five. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ All in all the little music dresser is a great music paper solution at our house, that is cheerful to boot! As inspiration for the colors I chose I used the fabric print on the drapes you see hanging right besides the little cabinet. Our little music paper dresser sits in the hall, around the corner from the piano. When looking at it you can take a little peak at my fantle above the fireplace in the background at one angle and our Idaho map at the other angel. What solutions have you come up with for storing music papers and books? The best things in life aren't things ~ Mixed Media ~ Yellow and Turquoise / Blue Sometimes we get so busy. So very very busy.... Doing busy things. That's when it is time to step back and re-evaluate: What am I doing with my time? Is what I am doing important? Will it be important next week? Will it be of importance next year? Ten years from now? Mixed media has become such a favorite for me, because the rules are little bit more relaxed. You can draw, glue, stamp, use found objects, etc, etc. I love it. Basically it is like being back in kindergarten and having permission to just "play" with your canvas.... Everything you do to it is considered to be great. And the adults in you life give you all the kudos you need when you show them your finished product. No judgements made. No-one has to be perfect. Does life get any better than that? ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ I am not quite sure if this picture of the girl with the quote: "the best things in life aren't "things" is perfect, but I had a perfectly great time putting it together...!! I used some cheerful happy spring colors {my favorites any time of year!!}, and added vintage papers, vintage measuring tape, paint, etc. SO fun to do. Funny thing is that the print of the paper I used as her skin-color makes it look like she has tatoos on her arms.... At least that's what struck me.... Now just in case you have a hard time making decisions: here is my go-ahead for you to go-ahead and be as awesome as you can be!!! Watch this short little clip about what things we should prioritize in our lives: Great little reminder of the things that matter most. Never let a problem to be solved be more important than a person to be loved ~ Thomas S. Monson ~ Go ahead and be awesome today!! xox Crystelle Rachel Handbag free sewing pattern up-cycled onion sack With the change of the seasons it is time for anther purse to carry around, keep organized, and show off some fun vibrant spring colors. I have made lots of different versions of the Rachel Handbag over the years, and here is another one: the up-cycled onion sack style handbag I love the Rachel Handbag for several reasons:
Onion sacks are so fun because they come in fabulous bright colors, plus they give a great up-cycling vibe. I line them with regular fabric for strength and ease of sewing Pockets keep my life organized. When I know WHERE I keep things in my purse , I can more easily find them:
Click here for the Rachel Handbag free download "Make" your own cute, convenient, and inexpensive towel to take to the gym I bought two cute towels at the dollar store ($1 each) and a package of yellow towels at Walmart ($2.49 for two) Then I added some ric-rac to one end I already had on hand. Ta-DA! The results are a towel that is not only functional, but also cheerful! These home-made gym-towels are easy on the budget. Store-bought exercise towels start at about $7.50.... {Whaaat??...} This is really embarrassing, but it's the truth: I'm probably the only person in the world who suffers from this problem, but I really need to wipe my nose a LOT when I am working out: I have allergies. For some reason when I hit the gym, my nose looses all control. During Spinning® class especially a towel is a must-have for me, for two reasons:
Another must-have at the gym are things such as persistence, inspiration, and motivation. What better way to encourage myself while working out, but with a happy cheerful towel? I get to look at it all the time while exerting myself.... May as well have a smile on my face every time I pick it up, right? Now this is a what I do: When I am on my Spinning® bike, I can use my towel to keep me cool and dry. (the ric-rac end is reserved for my nose) You can make your own happy cheerful and convenient gym-towel by adding ric-rac, ribbon, or whatever you have on hand to one end of a microfiber towel (available just about everywhere). ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Have fun! I hope your towel makes your gym-visit even more enjoyable!! Two big wall panels with large skeleton keys Easy large canvasses painted with big keys I was asked to decorate for an event in church {New Beginnings} in a KEY theme. Naturally I did not want to spend a lot of money and started looking around the house, brainstorming. I quickly came upon two canvases that I had used before. I had gotten tired of the "art" I had painted on them years ago and had covered them with a coat of white. This is the scenario: my brain + two canvases + key theme You see where this is going, don't you? I got out some of the mint-green chalk paint I made for an earlier post (see here) and painted the background. Then it was time to add some black keys (I just kinda made them up as I went). When the keys were dry I added some quick dry-brush strokes with white paint. Ta-DA!!! I even got them done in time! Yay!! And the beauty is:
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~~ ~ ~ Good things, right? Does life get any better than this? Happy Cheerful Bright Pillow With the Word "Laugh" In my effort of trying to make our home a happy cheerful place to come home to at the end of a school or work day, I found myself browsing around the local "Home Fabrics" store.. there I found some nice happy cheerful fabric with fun colors as a base and started my house decorating around the style and colors. So I choose some fabrics in my stash that would match my "base" fabric and made a fun and happy pillow. I drew a cheerful big girl on a swing to illustrate the theme of happiness. Don't you love that exhilarating playful feeling of the wind in your hair (and your stomach doing flip-flops) as you swing on a good old-fashioned swing? Hey, swings aren't just for kids anymore, right? Right!! I then made a fabric applique based onthe drawing. Even the face is stitched by machine! Though that was kinda tricky. {I must admit: I just painted the lips rather than stitching them by machine, because that was above my sewing skills level... ;)...} Now this bright and cheerful pillows welcomes all guests and residents who visit our entry. I hope it helps in some small way brighten someone's day...!! I am curious: What tricks do you use to lighten the mood in your home?
